In spite of various health problems Maren & I both managed to complete the Istanbul Marathon on 11th November 2012, which is the only one n the world that spans 2 continents, starting on the Asian side of Istanbul, crossing over the Bosphorus bridge into Europe, and finishing at the Hippodrome, the world's oldest running track. I was only told by my doctor 2 days before we travelled to Istanbul that I was ok to run again, after having collapsed 6 weeks prior. Maren had a migrane the day before the marathon and was still not feeling great on the day of the run, but not running was simply not an option for either of us! It was a long run, painful at times, but the thought of the bears in their cages, the pain they feel every second of every day, kept us going and put our own pain into perspective.
We had set ourselves a goal to raise £3000 for Animals Asia. We have nearly £2000 so far. THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts to all that have already sponsored us and encouraged us along the way!!! If you haven't sponsored us yet, it's not too late to help us reach our goal - just visit our JustGiving page. The bears, dogs & cats would be ever so greatful! ... and so would Maren & I of course!
